G/TIP FY2010 International Programs to Combat Trafficking in Persons

SUMMARY: The Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (G/TIP) is pleased to announce a two-stage competitive process for 2010 funding of projects that will improve the response to trafficking in persons outside the United States. The first stage is submission and competitive panel review of two-page Statements of Interest (SOI) from organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects that combat human trafficking. In the second stage, G/TIP will invite applicants whose Statements of Interest are reviewed favorably to submit proposals that expand on their SOI. These proposals will also be reviewed by a panel for consideration of funding. This announcement initiates the first stage, and G/TIP is now requesting applicants to submit a Statement of Interest, as described in this solicitation.

ELIGIBILITY: Nonprofit organizations with or without 501(c) (3) status, individuals, institutions of higher education, for profit organizations.

AWARD: 50 awards available. Awards range from $50,000-$750,000.

Strengthening Women’s Organizations and Political Representation in the Middle East and North Africa

SUMMARY: This funding opportunity seeks to address the Administration’s commitment to supporting the women of the Middle East and North Africa in their efforts to reach their full potential. The following MENA countries may be proposed: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, and Yemen. In line with the Administration’s vision, NEA/PI seeks applications to address the following two priority areas: A) Organizational Capacity Building for Women’s Organizations: This priority area aims to strengthen women-run or -focused civil society organizations in the MENA region. B) Development of Women’s Caucuses and Unions: This priority area seeks to build platforms for and connect female political activists through the development of women’s caucuses and unions – nationally and regionally.

Improving Education Quality in Senegal

SUMMARY: USAID intends to make an award of one Cooperative Agreement under this RFA. Subject to the availability of funds, USAID intends to provide approximately $20,000,000 to be allocated over the five-year period. USAID reserves the right to fund any or none of the applications submitted. A 10 million option is contemplated over the last 3 years of the base program as further explained under section c.7.5.

SUMMARY: The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) announces a Request for Statements of Interest (RSOI) from organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects that promote international religious freedom as part of overall good governance in the countries in: Near East, with a particular interest in Bahrain, Egypt, Israel and the Occupied Territories, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, and Yemen; South/Central Asia, with a particular interest in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan; East Asia and the Pacific, with a particular interest in Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and Vietnam; Africa, with a particular interest in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Sudan; Western Hemisphere, with a particular interest in Venezuela; and Europe, with a particular interest in Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Kosovo, Romania, the Russian Federation, Spain, and Turkey. DRL also welcomes proposals promoting interfaith cooperation in executing projects for social betterment, especially for student age participants.

Grants Address Hunger Issues Worldwide
Presbyterian Hunger Program


SUMMARY: The Presbyterian Hunger Program provides grants to programs addressing hunger and its causes in the
United States and around the world. Priority is given to organizations that attempt to change the root causes of hunger. Grants are provided in the following five categories: Direct Relief grants support programs that provide food relief to poor people. Development Assistance grants focus on developing a multi-faceted approach to development and the empowerment of poor people. Influencing Public Policy grants encourage activities that advocate for political and/or economic policy changes which provide food for the poor. Lifestyle Integrity grants target programs that assist the church to move toward sustainable lifestyles sensitive to the reality of the earth's limited resources. Education and Interpretation grants promote activities to educate the church and the public at large about the root causes of hunger.

DEADLINE: Applications for domestic grants are due May 31 and October 31, annually. International grant requests may be submitted at any time.

Tomorrow's Leaders II Scholarship Program and Recruitment

SUMMARY: This is an open competition for proposals to enhance and expand educational opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa. Education is a priority for the Administration, and President Obama has called for an increased emphasis on building partnerships through expanding exchanges and increasing scholarship opportunities for students from this region. With this program announcement we seek to promote mutual understanding and respect through innovative projects that provide university-level scholarship and internship opportunities at select institutions of learning in the Middle East and North Africa.
