Abington Foundation

SUMMARY: The Abington Foundation was established to support organizations which promote community health (focus on geriatrics and nursing), welfare (focus on promotion or sustaining of individual and family self-sufficiency), cultural activities, and education.

American Electric Power

SUMMARY: AEP Sponsors special programs to encourage economic development, education, the environment, hunger, housing, health, and safety within its traditional service territory. Priority is based on the perceived overall benefit to the community.

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for corporate contributions, organizations must be tax exempt under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and benefit communities within Ohio. Faith-based organizations may apply, so long as non-sectarian social services are being rendered.

Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation

SUMMARY: The focus of the Foundation is to support programs that promote the physical and mental well-being of the community. The Foundation emphasizes healthcare affordability concerns of the uninsured and underinsured, the poor, children, single parents and the aging. It also advocates programs that speak to the mental health needs of individuals and families.

ELIGIBILITY: Faith-based and community organizations having a 501 (c)(3) status with the IRS are eligible. Grants are made to programs working in Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne Counties.

The Bahmann Foundation

SUMMARY: The mission of the Bahmann Foundation is to reduce isolation of low-income, older adults through technology. Battelle

SUMMARY: The Batelle Trust distributes funds each year in the following categories: civic, arts, health and human services, and education. Priority is given to education initiatives.

Ben & Jerry's Foundation

SUMMARY: Although the Ben & Jerry's Foundation doesn't prioritize any particular issue area for funding, they do focus on the types of activities and strategies an organization uses for creating social change in any number of areas. They support programs and projects that are examples of creative problem-solving.

ELIGIBILITY: The Foundation will only consider proposals from grassroots, constituent-led organizations that are 501(c)(3)s that are organizing for systemic social change. **see site for further details.

The Bradley Foundation

SUMMARY: The Bradley Foundation is a private, independent grantmaking organization. SUMMARY: Dominion provides funding awards in the areas of education, environment, culture and the arts, civic and community development, and health and human services.

ELIGIBILITY: Dominion gives awards to non-profit organizations in geographic areas where Dominion provides electricity (Allen, Ashland, Ashtabula, Auglaize, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Guernsey, Hardin, Holmes, Knox, Lake, Mahoning, Medina, Mercer, Monroe, Muskingum, Noble, Paulding, Portage, Putman, Shelby, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, Van Wert, Washington, Wayne and Wood counties). Duke Energy Foundation

SUMMARY: The Duke Energy Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life in its community through the areas of environment, economic development and community vitality.

The Eaton Charitable Fund

SUMMARY: The highest priority is local organizations that serve the needs of Eaton employees and offers to them the opportunity to provide leadership, voluntary services, and personal financial support. Eaton strongly supports United Way. Program support and capital grants are given to health, human services, civic, and cultural organizations. Support to educational institutions is given but the trust has a preference for engineering, scientific, technological and business-related projects. Capital campaigns are limited to educational institutions with programs of direct interest to Eaton Corporation. Capital grants to health care organizations are limited to those geographic areas which have a shortage of services and beds, facilities which serve the needs of Eaton employees and to institutions who have reduced their ratio of beds to general public and shortened average stay. The fund also supports health care projects that will increase productivity and lower the cost of health care. The fund also has expressed interest in arts and cultural programs, higher education, children and youth services, family services, community development, neighborhood development, and economic development. Eaton lends it support through general or operating funds, capital campaigns, building/ renovation, program development, employee matching gifts and in-kind gifts.

ELIGIBILITY: No support is given to religious, fraternal, or labor organizations, or to organizations that might be part of a united fund or federated community fund, but who choose not to participate.

Funds Target Progressive Programs- Educational Foundation of America

SUMMARY:
The mission of the Educational Foundation of America is to improve individual lives and surroundings through education and awareness, in hopes of bettering humanity and the world we inhabit. The Foundation provides grants to progressive nonprofit organizations throughout the United States that offer specific programs with broad impact. The Foundation’s areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the environment, reproductive freedom, theatre, education, medicine, drug policy reform, democracy, peace and national security issues, and human services.

The Ellie Fund

SUMMARY
: The Ellie Fund awards grants to organizations that better the lives of disadvantaged children in Cuyahoga County in the following areas: crisis intervention, literacy, mental health, physical health, safety and shelter.

ELIGIBILITY: The Fund favors start-up, grassroots and smaller faith-based and community organizations. More established organizations may be considered for particularly innovative projects.

SUMMARY
: The Gannett Foundation's mission is to invest in the future of the communities in which Gannett does business, and in the future of our industry. They value projects that take a creative approach to fundamental issues such as education and neighborhood improvement, economic development, youth development, community problem-solving, assistance to disadvantaged people, environmental conservation and cultural enrichment.

Home Depot

SUMMARY: The Home Depot Foundation is dedicated to building affordable homes for working families that are healthy to live in and affordable to own. To make homes healthy and affordable, the Foundation encourages developers to incorporate responsible design and use durable materials to ensure that homes are more energy and water efficient, have good indoor air quality, and provide a safe and healthy space to live.

The McKenzie Foundation

SUMMARY
: Through funding community organizations, MeadWestvaco strives to break through barriers to self-sufficiency, achieve academic success and broaden horizons through arts and cultural experiences. Funding priorities differ with each community. Organizations in small and/or rural communities are often granted funds to address a broad range of needs, while urban communities often receive more targeted funding. SUMMARY:
The Nationwide Foundation makes operating, project and capital grants. Capital grants are limited and considered on a case-by-case basis. In order of emphasis, Nationwide supports efforts that meet: emergency and basic needs (such as food banks, disaster relief efforts and emergency shelters), stabilization needs (such as rehabilitation programs and organizations providing safety net services and programs), individual development needs (such as youth mentoring, financial literacy and homeownership programs) and community enrichment needs (such as arts and culture organizations, higher education and civic improvement).

: Based in Princeton, New Jersey, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is the United States' largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health and health care. The Rockefeller Foundation

SUMMARY
: The Rockefeller Foundation works around the world to promote the well-being of humanity by addressing the root causes of serious problems. The Foundation attempts to harness the creative forces of globalization, supporting breakthrough solutions to 21st century challenges. The Foundation's initiatives are largely focused in a small group of areas: global health, agricultural productivity, innovation for development, and economic resilience and urban life. Support is provided for high-impact ideas that have the potential to make a difference in the lives of large numbers of poor or vulnerable people. The Foundation requires that some results from such ideas be measurable within three to five years. Inquiry forms outlining innovative ideas are accepted at any time through the Foundation's website.




Sara Lee

SUMMARY
: Nonprofit organizations that are located in communities where Sara Lee has a facility should submit grant requests to the local Sara Lee facility. Requests must include: a description of the organization’s purpose, geographical area, population served, amount of grant request and its purpose, project timetable, proposed budge and other sources of financial support, tax exemption letter, most recent audited financial statement, and list of current board members. Primary emphasis is on issue of food insecurity.

Skoll Foundation: Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship

SUMMARY
: The Skoll Foundation's mission is to advance systemic change to benefit communities around the world by investing in people and organizations who apply innovative solutions to pressing social problems.

ELIGIBILITY: The Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship support nonprofit organizations whose work has the potential for large-scale influence on critical challenges of our time: environmental sustainability, health, tolerance and human rights, institutional responsibility, social and economic equality, and peace and security. Programs submitted for consideration should have a track record of at least three years.
