Office of the Governor Policies

Public Records Policy

The Governor’s Office maintains many public records that are used in the administration and operation of State government. These records are maintained in a manner that promotes their availability and access for public review and inspection.

Governor’s Office public records are available for inspection during our regular business hours of 8:00AM to 5:00PM, with the exception of published holidays. Public records are to be made available for inspection promptly. Copies of public records are to be made available within a reasonable period of time. Those seeking public records will be charged only the actual cost of making copies.

Ohio law makes certain public records exempt from disclosure. The Governor’s Office will review potentially responsive records before they are released to ensure exempt information is protected as permitted or required by law.

Any denial of public records in response to a valid request will be accompanied by an explanation, including legal authority. No public record request will be denied, in whole or in part, unless reviewed and approved by the Governor’s Record Officer.

The Governor’s Office has a Public Records Policy, a complete copy of which is available upon request and which is also posted here:

The Governor’s Office follows a Schedule of Records Retention, a copy of which available upon request and which is also posted on the Department of Administrative Services website.
