COLUMBUS—Today Governor John R. Kasich announced that he is appointing Lance Himes to serve as Acting Director of the Ohio Department of Health. Himes currently serves as the Department’s Chief Legal Counsel and served as Acting Director earlier in the Administration. Himes will replace the Department’s current director, Rick Hodges, effective March 31. Hodges announced today that he is leaving to pursue new opportunities outside of the Administration.
“Rick has been a valued member of our team since the beginning of the Administration and has enthusiastically and adeptly taken on big challenges at both the Turnpike Commission and at the Department of Health. I appreciate his service and wish him and his family well in this new chapter of their lives,” said Kasich.
Himes has been an attorney with the Ohio Department of Health for more than 10 years where his work has focused on environmental health and compliance issues. Himes was named General Counsel at the Department of Health in October 2011. Before joining the department, Himes practiced law in Cincinnati for seven years. He graduated from Wittenberg University with a bachelor’s degree majoring in business and geography and received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law.
Hodges has served as director since 2014.
